Like I mentioned at the beginning of this month, in my day job, I work as a federal employee, specifically for a small research division of the USDA. I had nothing to do with the mass chicken slaughterings, please don’t be mad at me.

My Shameful Secret

First, there was the delayed resignation offer, which a few dozen in my agency accepted (none on my team).
Then there was the summary dismissal of all probationary employees, including three on my team. One was spared by mere oversight.
Now, this week, the word came down to get ready for RIFs (reduction in force), and most agencies are expected to reduce their headcount by as much as 60%.
None of us know who will get the chop, but we’re all planning for the worst. Or maybe, in my case… the best?
