Fear Street. Supernatural. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They all tapped into that 90s young adult zeitgeist. If you were wondering why MIllennial adults like true crime, its because the majority of our teen fiction was slasher/stalker horror (lite).
The books and tv shows of that era set the expectations for a whole generation of girls. About boys, adults, and red flags in friends.
Obviously I hadn’t read any of them in decades, so I took a crack at the first three books by Richie Tankersley Cusick, my absolute fave from 7th grade to 10th (at which point she was supplanted by LJ SMith).
Reading these books as an adult was… interesting.
